Fishing has been stellar out on Lake Bemidji as of late. Recent trips out have resulted in full limits of walleyes, along with several nice perch and pike mixed into the action. Water temps have leveled off with the recent rain days, keeping fish in a stable pattern.
Walleyes can be found roaming across several depth ranges, with the majority of our fishing coming in the 8-13ft range. A nice class of 18-21″ fish have been hitting the boat over the past two weeks, mainly using Forward Facing Sonar to key in on large schools of fish to pitch jigs into. Seems like a subtle jig and slow retrieve have been triggering more bites than an aggressive approach. Additionally, we have seen nicer quality fish starting to take a live bait rig with a leech.
Schools have remained in their home areas, not moving to far, though many schools are mixed in with sucker schools that can stretch out over 50-100 yards, keying in where bites are coming from will help you narrow down where the walleyes are congregated.
Look for the sand flats along a steep break to start your search, side scan technology comes in quite useful in order to cover water quickly. This time of the year can lead to great bites, boating 20+ walleyes in an outing!
We still have some availability in early June, make sure to reach out if you are looking to get out on Lake Bemidji and will get you on the water!
